4 Easy Steps To Clean Your WordPress Blog

Spring is upon us, and what better way to kick it off with a little Spring-cleaning. Yes, that means cleaning your WordPress blog too! Just a little sprucing up to make sure your blog functions well all throughout the year.

Here are some easy steps to clean your WordPress blog:

  1. Unload your unused widgets – Don’t overstuff your sidebar or widget area, especially if you don’t really need those additional widgets. Look at your sidebar at the perspective of a first-time visitor and see which widgets are essential and which ones will you least likely click. Then remove widgets that don’t serve clear navigational or visual purpose.
  2. Declutter your social sharing buttons – Social sharing buttons are great to help readers spread your content across multiple social media sites. But displaying every single sharing button can also be visually distracting. Instead, think about your buttons’ lineup. And consider which ones you will really need and the social media platforms you want to take advantage of. If you’re a personal blogger, do you need to be that active in LinkedIn? Also, of you write long posts, will it suit well in Tumblr? Try to limit it to the top three or four places where your content is most likely to be shared.
  3. Finish off old drafts – Do you have a lot of unfinished drafts or notes? Well, it’s about time to make them public. Complete those unfinished drafts you’ve forgotten about, or even combine materials from several drafts into one post.
  4. Sort out your tags – In your dashboard, look at the tags column of all your posts and see if all your posts have tags. Meanwhile, if any posts have more than 15 tags, then remove some of the tags. Also, if you see posts that have similar topics but are tagged differently, then edit them to have consistency. This can help readers find related content quickly.

Now, all you have to do is enjoy your cleaner and clutter-free blog! Do have your own spring-cleaning process? Tell me about it and share it on the comments below!

Strive To Be Of Value

Success has different meanings for different people. It can be quantified into earning millions of dollars while others see it as being a company’s top-performing employee. Everyone wants to be successful, but very few think about being of value.

Don’t just settle being successful; remember to be of value as well. It’s like what Albert Einstein said, “Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.” When you become of value, you earn that sense of purpose. It gives you a direction on what else you want for your life. Rather than simply aiming for a target, aim to be the type of person who will inspire others.

It could be a solution to their problems or something that brings them joy or both.” Often times, I get asked what does it mean to provide value. Well, the explanation above says it all.

Too Many Facebook Hashtags Can Hurt Your Brand

Hashtags are great for marketing and promoting content, but sometimes we can get overboard with using several hashtags. This has to stop, especially putting so many hashtags on your brand’s Facebook Page.

According to a new report from Socialbakers, “the more hashtags a brand uses in a Facebook post, the less engagement it receives.”

Also, when they sampled 200,000 brand posts on Facebook last February 2014, the brands that used one of two hashtags in a post got an average of 593 interactions. Meanwhile, those brands that used three to five hashtags only had 416 interactions.

To get a clearer picture of how this practice can affect a brand’s engagement on Facebook, here’s a chart created by Statista.

  1. Publicize Your Pinterest Profile – How can you expect them to visit your Pinterest page if it is not viewable? So include links of your Pinterest profile on your website, email signature, or even when you close a blog post. This can help get a better chance for repins and add traffic from Pinterest.
  2. Schedule Pins – This can help increase following. Also, your followers would see regular pins throughout the day. You can do this manually or use a tool for pin scheduling like Ahalogy.
  3. Use A Descriptive File Name – The descriptive name will automatically be the name the pin will be given. So make sure you think this through. A descriptive name can make your follower repin your images and even visit your website.
