Knowing who your target audience is can make a lot of difference in your business. First off, you can identify whom you need to target and how to talk to them.
It is better to know who the receiver of the message will be before even sending out a message. Just like what M. Lawrence Light said, “It no longer makes economic sense to send an advertising message to the many in hopes of persuading the few.” We need to define whom our target audience is before making decisions regarding advertising and marketing. This way, we will have better results.
In order to really get our message across and capture our audience’s attention, we need to learn how to talk to them. Therefore, we need to know who they are, what they want, and need. That is really the only way we can relate to them. We can’t persuade them to buy something they won’t use or need. By defining and going to the specifics of who are audience is, we are more effective entrepreneurs.
Relationships start with knowing the people you want to be in relationship with. It’s not about blurting out random words. It’s about knowing who you want to listen to you and what would make them listen to you. So next time you send an advertising message, think of your audience first.
