Be A Member, Not A Marketer
The best way to approach prospective clients is not to treat them as customers. Just get to know them first and see if your company can offer them something.
Internet marketing will not be complete without social media. But just like in traditional marketing, it’s important to build relationships first before offering anything. This is most important in online businesses since we lack personal connection and just rely on technology to bring us closer to our followers. According to Mari Smith, “The secret to getting results from your social networking is to act like a member, not a marketer.”
Smith simply means to put yourself in the shoes of your followers instead of talking to them with an agenda in mind. Another thing you can try is by being more personal when communicating and connecting with them. Don’t act like you are marketing a product. Be genuine; talk to them as someone who wants to help them and would be willing to offer solutions.
Sure, everyone you meet may be a potential customer, but if you always think like that, chances are you won’t have any relationship with your followers. The relationships are what will bring you loyal customers not the sales pitch. It is their trust to you that will be the foundation of the relationship. What would you need a sales pitch for if you have no audience to even deliver it?
Always place yourself to your customers’ shoes. What would they need? How do they feel? Be a member not a marketer. Be at a more personal level and build relationships, then you will be successful online.
