Lately, it feels like time just flies. One minute you’re starting your day, next thing you know, it’s already three o’clock in the afternoon and the day is about to end. It seems like time is a luxury we can’t afford to lose. So we as entrepreneurs, need to use it wisely.
I found a great infographics from visual.ly showing how “incredibly busy people” can become more productive.
Tip #1: Focus – We need to prioritize what’s important and focus on doing it; instead of dilly-dallying. Keep your eye on the target.
Tip #2: Block Distractions – We live in a world where there are a lot of distractions. Frankly, you don’t need to look at the new music video of your favorite band on YouTube. Leave that for another time. When you block out distractions, you can focus more on your tasks.
Tip #3: Limit Meetings – You don’t need to take five hours just to talk about a single project when you can use most of that time actually making that project. Divide your time accordingly. For example, maybe you only 30 minutes to discuss updates on an on-going project, then set another 30 minutes to discuss issues and possible solutions. Make every second count. Set a timer on your meetings and concentrate on the topic.
Tip #4: Create Productivity Rituals – This is all about scheduling. Schedule your tasks across the day to be more productive. By doing so, you are able to maximize your time. For example, I drop off my daughter to school at seven o’clock and pick her up at noon. Between those hours, I go to a nearby coffee shop to do my work, answer emails, delegate tasks to my team, and so on. In a span of 4-5 hours I accomplish the bulk of my work and still get to spend time with my daughter. Once you have your own set of schedules or routines, follow it. Then, you will accomplish more each day.
Tip #5: Get Up Earlier – You know what they say about the early bird getting the worm? Well, that’s true. In our case, the early bird gets things done more and finish earlier. Don’t expect to wake up the next day at five in the morning if you are used to getting up by 10. Take it slow, get up 15 minutes earlier every day and gradually increase the time. Soon, it will be natural for you to get out of bed at the crack of dawn.
We entrepreneurs need to be productive not just for the success of our business, but also to be able to enjoy that success and share it with the people we care most. Follow these tips and see the improvement!
