Contrary to popular belief, you CAN get rich even when you’re doing the things you love. You see, in the Philippines, most people think that in order for them to be rich, they have to let go of whatever it is they’re genuinely passionate about. Consider this story:
Maria always wanted to be a concert pianist. She studied the piano, how to play it and its most complicated subjects all her life. But money comes short because she only gets paid on a per gig basis and, let’s face it, not everyone can afford a concert pianists. She was happy, but, realizing she had a family to take care of, she just let it go.
Eventually, she gives up the whole idea and becomes someone who works in the BPO industry. Not a day goes by with Maria feeling stressed and unhappy. She tells relatives in a family gathering what her work was; quite frankly, they’ve seen the difference between pianist Maria and BPO Maria.
“It pays the bills. I’m happy.” Maria’s canned response goes, whenever someone had the guts to ask her if she was happy. But Maria knew the truth – she was not happy.
That’s a pretty solid example to explain how people think they’re happy just because their needs are being met. And I can’t blame them for falling victim to such a belief. These days are hard for the world financially.
But this is where the status quo gets challenged. By choosing a niche, the Internet literally allows you to talk about what you’re passionate about, have a dedicated set of people who listen to every word you say and at the same time, take every recommendation you make as gospel truth. That makes it easier for you to sell to them which, at the end of the day, brings you all the cash you need – all because you chose a niche you love.
So let this be a lesson to us: Passion is the path to abundance – if you’re truly passionate about something, you’ll never see the end of your day unless you get all your tasks done AND, most important of all, you don’t lose energy for it quickly.
Oh, and what happened to Maria?
She happened to stumble upon an Internet marketing course and is now teaching people how to play the piano online. She’s now generating a sustainable and recurring income just by being out there. She’s both happy and making money.
Who wouldn’t want that?
