Whenever talking about online businesses, you can’t help but hear the term SEO. What is it anyway? And why is it so important?

SEO, the acronym for Search Engine Optimization, is simply how search engines, like Google, Yahoo, and Bing, rate your website in terms of relevance and importance on users searches through the keywords. These keywords are the words or phrases we type in any search engine’s search box.

Relevance and importance are determined by the quality of content you put in your website. Will it give your readers valuable information? Will it be worth their time? Is it interesting to them? Will it answer their questions?

If the answers to these questions are all Yes; then it would be likely that they would also share your website or the content to their friends. That’s when your influence grows.

As search engines see the growth of your digital influence, you’re ranking becomes higher and your placement in the search engines’ pages improve.

Why is this important? Let me ask you, when you search something online, do you look at the last page result? No. You only view the first five results on page one. At times, only the first three results. Nevertheless, it very unlikely you would even find out what the results are on page five and so on.

How is this relevant to a digital entrepreneur? Well for one, it makes you more visible; hence, more people would visit your website and check out what you can offer. Moreover, this would gain you more followers, who, eventually, will be loyal customers.

You can take advantage of SEO by improving the quality of your content as well as promote your products in the future. Once you have become an authority, readers and followers would visit and share your site.

Let’s have a little bit of experiment. Try searching for your website’s niche online and see what’s your website’s placement would be. Go on, try it out. If you are say an events planner, search for the words: “events planner (and the country or city you are in)”

See if your website’s in page one.
