Today, I finally had the chance to start doing my very first Summary Post. It was like a resurrection! It rose up from the bottom of my To-Do list and was finally ticked off. (Yeah Beybeh! I’m so proud of myself!)
So what is a Summary Post anyway?
A Summary Post is simple a post summarizing all the other blog posts that I did for the week. Yeah, it’s that simple! But sometimes, the most simple of tasks are the most important ones. And their simplicity is most often the reason why they are being ignored (like how I’ve ignored it for the longest time) and taken for granted. And because of this, we fail to realize the value that it brings to our blogs and our Internet Business in general.
Here are the big reasons why you too should start doing Summary Posts:
1. People Love Summaries
We are now living in the “Information Age” where time and attention are scarce commodities. People would rather read short excerpts or lists rather than a 700 word article, and dial a dinner delivery than cook a hot meal.(Ever wonder why the Fast Food industry is growing each year?). Short and fast is always good!
2. Decrease Bounce Rate
A Bounce Rate is one of the metrics used in Web Analytics that provides the percentage of single-page visits or visits in which the person left your site from the entrance (landing) page. If you read the previous sentence at least twice, and you are still confused what a Bounce Rate is, don’t worry… that’s perfectly fine. 🙂 To explain it in less “geeky terms”, a Bounce Rate is simply the measure of how many people visited your website and proceeding in reading your other post, versus those who left immediately after landing on the first page. And if this explanation still gives you a headache, never worry… just keep in mind that Summary Posts decreases your bounce rate because it get’s your website visitors to read more articles and stay longer in your website. 🙂
3. Strengthen Internal Linking
For those who are newbies to SEO, you need to understand that it’s important to “inter-link” all your articles with each other to make sure that all those precious Google Juice gets distributed to all parts of your blog and strengthen the link authority of your site as a whole. And what better way to do this than Summary Posts.
4. Make Yourself Proud
Weekends are normally a time not only to rest but also to reward yourself for all the hard work and accomplishments of the week. A Summary Post may be considered as your weekly “Pat On the Back” for a job well done through out the week. Writing and actually seeing a list of your accomplishments is very empowering and give’s you that big deposit to your “Confidence Bank Account”. So do yourself a favor and give your self a pat on the back with a Summary Post!
